Canvas is lined; moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust; under a highly reflective varnish; network of stable craquelures throughout; previous stretcher bar marks visible around image perimeter; passages of the canvas are pressed due to the lining process, most noticeable in the center right and in the man's face; inpainting is visible under normal viewing conditions along all edges, within the right and left sides of the man's suit jacket and the left lapel, as well as above his left arm, and additional dots of inpainting scattered through the background; one small white paint drip in center left of background. Under UV light: inpainting fluoresces in aforementioned areas; inpainting throughout the man's face, with heavier inpainting along the right side and in his hair; inpainting scattered throughout his left epaulet.
