How does it work?
Research the Property
Before bidding, review the auction catalog and identify the lots that interest you. Read lot descriptions, condition reports, estimates, and auction terms, and attend previews when available. Understanding the property's value and condition helps you bid with confidence.
Register and Bid
To participate in an auction, you must register before the sale begins. Depending on the auction, you can bid online, in person, by phone, or through an absentee bid. Before placing a bid, familiarize yourself with bidding increments and set a maximum budget.
Complete Payment and Collect Your Item
If you are the winning bidder, you'll receive an invoice that includes the hammer price, buyer's premium, and any applicable taxes or fees. After payment, arrange pickup, shipping, or delivery according to the auction house's policies.

To participate, you'll need to create an account, register for the auction, agree to the applicable Terms and Conditions of Sale, and receive bidding approval. A lot is a single item or group of items offered for sale as one unit during an auction. A lot can be a single artwork, piece of jewelry, or decorative object, or it may include multiple related items that are grouped together and sold as one.
Each lot is assigned a unique lot number, which helps identify and track it throughout the auction. Buyers use lot numbers to find items they're interested in, follow the auction, and place bids. Lot numbers also determine the order in which items are offered for sale and continue to be used after the auction for invoices, sale results, and collection records.
Yes. Most auctions include public preview exhibitions where clients may inspect property in person before bidding.
A condition report provides additional details about a lot's physical condition beyond the catalog description, helping buyers make informed bidding decisions. Prepared by our specialists, condition reports highlight notable characteristics of an artwork or object at the time of inspection and may include information about age-related wear, restoration, repairs, or other features that contribute to the item's overall condition.
All lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale, and we encourage prospective buyers to review available condition reports and contact our specialists with any questions before bidding.
Yes. We recommend registering at least 24 hours before the auction begins to ensure your account is approved and ready to bid.
- Go to the freemansauction.com home page and click the “Sign In” button in the top right hand corner.
- Go to the bottom of the pop-up where it notes “Not already a member?” and click “Sign Up”
- Fill out the form with your contact information and desired password and click the “Next” button.
- Select your interests and click “Next Step” or click “Skip for Now.” (You can update your notifications at any time.)
- You will receive an email with a link to verify and activate your Freeman's account.
- Once verified, log in to access your account.
