Hannah Carpenter's husband, Delford, was born in Ellington, Connecticut on March 18, 1800. Contrary to the written inscription on the back of the portrait, he is listed as having passed away on August 30, 1843. There are no census records documenting their union, as he passed away within, or just over, one year of their marriage.

Similarly, there is no record of when Hannah passed away, but the 1855 New York Census shows that she was residing with her parents at that time.
