John Taylor Bottomley (1869-1925) graduated from Harvard Medical School in 1894. He served as an assistant surgeon on the Bay State Hospital Ship during the Spanish-American War, and thereafter in various surgical capacities at Boston City Hospital from 1899-1903. He then took a position as Surgeon in Chief at Carney Hospital, where he worked from 1903. When the United States entered World War I, he was serving as a captain in the Medical Reserve Corps, and was called to active duty on 10 May 1918. He was
