Not long after 1885, a reproduction of the present painting was issued by Christian Klackner as a platinotype, under the title Far From Home, which could have been Brown's original invention. In doing so, Brown hints at the Italianate origins of the child street violinist and revisits the vast series of Italian street musicians the artist had produced in the mid-1870s.
