Lot note: This painting is most likely a copy of Wijnants' painting A Road to the Edge of the Dunes, which has been in the Bavarian public collection since its purchase in the early 18th century. It is possible that this copy was painted in the 18th century, when the painting was exhibited at the Gallery at Zweibrücken.
