According to L.J. Pristo, Ph.D., Martele: Gorham's Nouveau Art Silver, pg. 380, this centerpiece bowl and plateau were made by John M. Sorum on August 8, 1917-- it took him 69 hours to produce the bowl and 34 hours to produce the plateau. The finished pieces are illustrated together on pg. 109, fig. LSZ Centerpiece and Plateau.

Surface wear visible throughout commensurate with age and use. Tarnish in areas, particularly to recesses, with a heavier tarnish to the interior of the bowl. No signs of any restoration visible. Overall the piece has a bit of a shine to it, but more likely due to polishing and cleaning over time than due to any buffing; missing the original insert
