This 1945 Associated Press shows a passing of the guard in the National League as bespectacled Honus Wagner measures the tools of the trade with New York Giants slugger Mel Ott. Ott was on the edge of passing Wagner's record for career total bases when he met with legendary Pirates shortstop turned coach.
