Moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust; canvas is lined; passages of the canvas have been pressed due to the lining surface; localized areas of horizontal craquelures scattered through the background and within the figure's chest and chin; scattered areas of inpainting throughout, with a large area in the upper right corner visible under normal viewing conditions, as well as inpainting to the figure's hand; a small whitish stain to the drapery over the figure's right shoulder. Under UV light: the greenish varnish obscures any older inpainting; areas of more recent inpainting in the upper right corner and to the figure's hand and book; dots of inpainting in the upper left corner and the figure's chest; one dot of inpainting in the center of the figure's right eye.
