Moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust; canvas is lined and is on non-original stretchers; passages of the canvas have been pressed due to the lining surface; scattered areas of overcleaning throughout; five round spots of whitish residue in the lower left corner; two vertical lines of inpainting in the upper center; additional scattered areas of inpainting throughout but not as prominent as the aforementioned areas. Under UV light: the thick varnish obscures older inpainting; the aforementioned vertical lines in the upper center fluoresce; strokes of newer inpainting within the boy's right hand, face, and hat, as well as along the outlines of his right leg; inpainting in scattered areas throughout the lower half of the composition, including the body of the dog.
