The relined canvas on a new stretcher. In overall good condition, with edges left relatively bare (part of the artist's working method). Examination under UV light reveals a thick layer of milk varnish throughout. We notice light, feathery inpainting at center right (on the tree trunk) as well as in the foliage at upper right quadrant. Localized inpainting also visible at upper center (just above the clearing) as well as at center left (likely old scratches on the tree trunks), in the upper left quadrant in general as well as at bottom center left (very sporadic, mostly touch-ups in the trees). Additional images available upon request.
