Lot Note:
According to Scott R. Ferris, Home Again—Asgaard, "depicts Kent's wife Sally and their dog Gunnar greeting [him] on his return home to Asgaard," after what has been, we are led to presume, a lengthy period of travel. Sally running out of the house, her arms raised in apparent excitement, is at the center of the image. Her gaze leads us first to Gunnar and then to the figure of the artist, out of view behind the tree, a hint to his extended absence. The scene, suffused with familial warmth, is indeed a reminder of Kent’s peripatetic life as an artist. To him, exploration and artistic production were inextricable endeavors, and his career took him to remote and rugged regions of the world, which inspired him to distill nature’s harsh and sublime qualities as well as humanity’s loneliness and resilience. By contrast, his house in Asgaard, which he called Gladsheim, provided an anchor of safety and comfort in a bucolic setting. Sadly, Ferris continues, the dwelling "was destroyed by fire in 1969," but Kent quickly "redesigned and built their new home on the same foundation."
