Moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust; canvas is lined; faint stretcher bar marks around the image perimeter as well as extending vertically through the center; a hairline network of craquelures throughout the surface. Under UV light: extensive inpainting throughout the sky; possible inpainting in the castle and several tree trunks in the center left, though the fluorescence may be inherent to the original pigments used; several small areas of inpainting in the center right, within the mountain; one small spot in the lower right corner, above the signature.
