A Patek Philippe Gondolo pocket watch is a timepiece that was originally created for the Brazilian retailer Gondolo & Labouriau. These watches, often featuring large silver or gold cases, were produced from the late 19th century into the early 20th century. During the late 19th and early 20th century, Chronometro Gondolo and Labouriau was Patek Philippe’s number one global client. Tiffany & Co was a humble number two in comparison. This Chronometro Gondolo was the watch that built the empire for this prominent Brazilian retailer. From 1872 until 1927, Patek Philippe’s partnership with Chronometro Gondolo created some of the most beautiful pocket and wristwatches at the dawn of the modern era.
Overall Condition: The watch is missing its crystal. The dial is in overall good condition with some very light surface scratches but no visible cracking or fissures. The hobnail case back and engraving is strong. Light surface scratches throughout consistent with age and use. The pocket watch winds, sets, and runs at the time of cataloging but has not been timed for accuracy.
Please note that Freeman’s Hindman does not warranty the watch at the time of the auction or after its purchase. Potential buyers should be advised that though the watch may be running at the time of cataloging, it may stop running before the auction and servicing is recommended for all timepieces. The authenticity of individual parts is not guaranteed since repairs and restoration may have occurred. Hindman assumes all watches are unisex and does not specify the gender of a piece. For size reference, please see the case measurements of the piece listed under dimensions.
