Catalogue Note:
With a background as an art historian and old masters paintings dealer, Laurel “Loie” DeVore approaches her ceramic works with a particular eye towards the beauty of still lifes by the Dutch combined with the rawness of a nature—neither friend nor foe—that 19th century Hudson River School painting explored. Her faux bois vases in blanc de chine glazes are for displaying flowers. Their ease of use makes the constant of fresh cut blooms accessible to the most floral arranging challenged amongst us.
DeVore’s series of vessels began out of necessity when she couldn’t find what she needed for her own tables… something earthy and whimsical that would work with her best china and her every-day dishes. They come in many shapes and sizes, some perfect for just a quick bunch of tulips from the deli bunged in and others more appropriate as containers for showcasing orchids or mosses. All her forms elevate the flowers over themselves. And they look wonderful in groups arranged on a dining table or sideboard.
With an intentionally rustic finish; like-new condition with felt to the base. Ready to place.
