Property from the Estate of Dan Parmalee Eells (1825-1903), thence by descent.
A leading banker and financier of Cleveland, Dan Parmelee Eells rose from bookkeeper at the State Bank of Ohio in 1849 to president of the Commercial National Bank, a position he held from 1868 until his retirement in 1897. Over the course of his career, he served as a director of more than thirty firms, with wide-ranging interests in oil, iron, steel, cement, gas, and railroads.
Prominent in civic and religious life, Eells was a trustee of several colleges, president of the Cleveland YMCA and Bible Society, and treasurer of charitable institutions including the Protestant Orphans’ Asylum, the Home for Aged Women, the Children’s Aid Society, and the Bethel Union.

Overall good condition, considering age and use; wear to gilding particularly to rim and extremities; surface soiling; interior oxidized to a pleasing dark brown; enamels with scattered pits as is typical, under Uv light no restoration seen.
