Edwin Griggs Adams (born 1879) acquired in China between 1897 and the early 20th century, thence by descent.
Edwin Griggs Adams was an American civil engineer and educator. Born in Lansingburgh, New York, on August 23, 1879, he studied at Troy Academy before earning his civil engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1891. He began his career in bridge engineering with the Pennsylvania Steel Company and the Union Bridge Company (1891–1897). In 1897, Adams traveled to China, where he was appointed Professor of Civil Engineering at Peiyang University in Tianjin—the second faculty member recruited by the institution. During his tenure (1897–1900), he played a key role in advancing engineering education and contributed to major infrastructure projects, including the construction of the Beijing railway station.
