Vallin Galleries has been a respected name in the field of Asian art for more than six decades. Its origins date back to Josephine Vallin Rosenberg, who began with a lampshade and lamp shop on Tenth Street in New York’s Greenwich Village. She quickly gained recognition for her innovative transformation of antique Chinese porcelain vases into refined lamps, sparking a lifelong passion for Asian art.
In 1951, Josephine formally established Vallin Galleries in Wilton, Connecticut. Under the direction of her son, Peter L. Rosenberg, and his wife and business partner, Louise Rosenberg, the gallery grew into a trusted destination for collectors, museums, and dealers seeking exceptional Chinese, Japanese, and other Asian works of art.
Today, countless artworks that once passed through Vallin Galleries continue to surface in museums and at auction, proudly carrying the gallery’s provenance—a lasting testament to the Rosenbergs’ discerning vision and enduring legacy in the world of Asian art.
