Provenance:
Bonhams, New York, The Art of Time, December 6, 2018, Lot 103.
There are a winding key and a pendulum present. Each pin takes a wind, and the clock appears to run, but has not been tested for timekeeping duration or accuracy. The hands can be manually advanced, and the hammer strikes the bell at the hour with a clear sound; the number of strikes doesn't presently correspond with the hour. The silent/strike subdial is functional so the clock does not chime when set to silent. The date subdial is stationary until the hour approaches midnight, and then advances as the hour hands are advanced. The bell may be later than the rest of the works, but everything else appears to be original. There is a case key which fits both the front and back doors. Both locks are functional. Old age splits and repairs to the case's veneer, with visible glue. There are holes at the for corners of the top of the case, suggesting there may have been finials or other decorative elements which have been lost.
