According to an obituary published in The Rome Daily Sentinel, Rome, New York, Feb. 26, 1903, John Charles Waelde was born in Wurtenburg, Germany. He arrived in the United States at the age of 27 and eventually settled in Oneida County, New York where he manufactured stoneware for twenty-eight years. His motto was "Owe no man anything." He retired to Schenevus, New York.
overall intact, retaining the nice glazed surface; with some mild crackling to glaze commensurate with age and use; the rim with minor area of roughness where glaze didn't stick during manufacture; underside edge with old shallow chip or surface loss, but appears to be stable; with a couple minute fleabites or surface imperfections to body, but only on surface; the underside and base rim with some traces of blue household paint
