Note:
Edward Townsend Stotesbury (1849-1938) was a successful investment banker, acting as a partner in Drexel & Co. in Philadelphia and J.P. Morgan & Co. in New York. He built several massive homes, including Whitemarsh Hall, located in outside Philadelphia and designed by Horace Trumbauer (built 1916-1921). This house, demolished in 1980, was the third largest private residence in America.
