Note:
Reverend Samuel Cooper was pastor of Brattle Street Church in Boston, from 1747-1783. Well-regarded as a nonpartisan preacher, he attracted a popular following, including Revolutionaries such as John Hancock, Samuel Adams, and John Adams. This portrait miniature appears to be done after a portrait attributed to John Singleton Copley, now in the collection of the Massachusetts Historical Society.
