This cast photo from the acclaimed Yiddish-language revival of Fiddler on the Roof, directed by Joel Grey, captures a poignant transitional moment as the company prepared to move uptown following their celebrated off-Broadway run. Taken near the East River, the image is steeped in both pride and wistfulness, with the entire cast in costume-reluctant to leave the intimate theater that launched their journey. Ever the storyteller, Mr. Grey arranged the shot, handed off his camera, and then quietly slipped into the frame himself, just behind Tevye- securing a farewell memory he both directed and shared in.
Framed: 15 1/2 x 34 1/2 inches.
