Note from Tim Corfield, antiques advisor to Betty and Gordon Moore at Mountain Meadow:
Tripod tables that look roughly like this turn up on the market frequently, but very very few stand up to close scrutiny. This one does. The top a single massive piece of mahogany is supported on the bird cage action, which allows the top to rotate without wobbling. The column is a classic gun barrel taper and nicely reeded. This in turn raised on a bold tripod base the legs terminating in carved paw feet with acanthus and shell carved knees.
