Estimate$4,000 – $6,000
Provenance:
Apollo Antiques, Warwick
Note from Tim Corfield, antiques advisor to Betty and Gordon Moore at Mountain Meadow:
This is a magnificent piece of furniture and clearly made by a significant cabinet maker. The quality is superb and the design indicates that it would have been in a major room. The top drawers are dummies and open to provide a large and practical writing surface. The lower drawers and cupboards cross banded and strung with flame veneered panels. The whole thing raised on fluted pilasters and tapering feet with block toes.
Old scuffs, scrapes, and darks marks throughout, consistent with age and use. The proper left rear leg is detached, but present and could be reattached. The top with sun-fading along the front edge. Sections of molding are missing from the top proper left edge. The drawers, cabinets, and writing surface open and close smoothly. There is a key, which only works with the locks for the cabinets. The pulls are replacements. Additional images available upon request.
