Note:
As a growing population embarked on the 'Grand Tour' of Europe in the 19th century a growing market for decorative arts in the Ancient style grew in continental Europe with the focal point emerging in Italy. While earlier 18th century travelers on the Grand Tour would procure actual material from Antiquity to send back home; by the 19th century, copies based on original Ancient works came into vogue. The present bust is based off an early emperor of Rome but the composition is not specific to an individual ruler.
The nose with a filled crack to right nostril. Small chip to back side of socle, largely not noticeable when viewed from front. The head with considerable restoration to back of neck and running through the crown of the head. Additional images available upon request.
