Christie's South Kensington, London, sale of December 2, 1991, lot 10.
Acquired directly from the above sale.
In overall fair to good condition. Please note the work was not examined out of its frame. With an uneven left outer edge, as the sheet was likely ripped off from the artist's sketchbook. The sheet is slightly toned, with light discoloration along the bottom outer edge. With a series of small foxing marks along the bottom right outer edge of the sheet but also at upper center, in the background. We also notice evidence of handling throughout (light smudges and very faint ripples in the paper at bottom right). A darker pinpoint foxing mark more visible at bottom right, just below the main profile head. We also notice dust and accretions trapped in between the two sheets of glass. The main condition issue resides in the horizontal fold across the centerline of the sheet, a result from past folding. Small remnants of what appears to be old brown tape at center right, in the bottom right corner of the upper sheet before the fold. Otherwise no evidence or loss, repair or tear. Additional images available upon request.
