Lot Essay:
Marcoussis depicted many fish throughout his career, often referring to them as a symbol of Cubism. This particular study, derived from a 1928 oil, serves as a preparatory work for a 1930 colored lithograph bearing the same title.
Framed: 18 x 22 x 1 in.
The drawing is in overall fair condition. The paper is toned and the colors appear to be a bit faded. The paper is affixed to the mount along the top edge. There is an approx. 1/4 in. area of accretion at the bottom center verso, which has stained the paper slightly recto. The margins of the drawing are slightly soiled. Additional images available upon request.
