No place, ca. 1950. Hand-colored mezzotint, engraved by Charles Stuart. 24 x 19 1/2 in. (610 x 495 mm). In mat and in frame, 28 1/4 x 23 3/4 in. (717 x 603 mm).

A striking engraving of the legendary American frontiersman, printed from the original 1839 copperplate.

The original 1839 version of this print is so rare as to be unobtainable, and is lacking from most major institutional collections. According to RBH, no copy of the original has ever come to auction, and we can locate only one copy ever of it on the market, from 1963.
