Wendy Ramshaw, CBE, RDI (1939–2018) was a pioneering British designer who bridged the worlds of jewelry, sculpture, and architecture. Her contribution to British design was recognized with the prestigious Royal Designer for Industry (RDI) distinction in 1999, followed by her appointment as a CBE in 2003. Best known for her ring sets fitted on sculptural stands, the intersection between sculpture and wearable art broke boundaries in the 1970s, winning her the 1972 Design Council Award and launching her career. Ramshaw was one of the first women admitted to the Goldsmiths’ Company in 1973. Always looking to work with new materials she collaborated with the Wedgewood company in the 1980s using their signature jasperware and black basalt in her jewelry designs. Between 1989 and 1998, Ramshaw conceptualized jewelry for the women in Picasso’s paintings creating 66 individual, highly complex pieces of jewelry. Each piece was a direct, sculptural response to a different portrait Picasso painted of the key women in his life. This 10-year project culminated in a museum exhibition called Picasso’s Ladies which opened at the Victoria and Albert museum in London in 1998 moving to the American Craft Museum in New York in 1999. Today, her pieces are highly coveted by collectors and held in many of the world’s leading museum collections including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London; Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; National Museums Scotland, Edinburgh; and the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto.

Overall Condition: Light scratching and wear to gold consistent with age and use. Light damage to the bezels in two of the rings.
