Photographs range in size from 4 1/2 x 3 3/4 in. to 9 3/4 x 13 3/4 in., most on cardstock mounts, some identified in the negative or on mount, many uncredited (conditions generally good, with occasional toning, soiling, creasing to prints and mounts, edge and corner wear to mounts). Ca late 19th-early 20th century.

Highlights include: Outdoor view of soldiers gathered outside a building at Ft. Lincoln, Dakota Territory. Verso imprint of D.F. Barry, Bismarck and Standing Rock, Dakota Territory (soiling to print and mount, pencil markings on mount verso). -- 6 photographs taken at Fort Meade, South Dakota, including 2 panoramic views of a cavalry regiment drilling, one captioned in negative, "8th Cav. Muster, June 30, '92," and with verso imprint of Fuller Bros., Rapid City, South Dakota, the other with modern notation on verso identifying one of the officers as General Dodge (soiling, tape residue on mount versos). Also enclosed is an uncredited view of a cavalry regiment in formation with verso period notation, "The compliments of Lyda and William Baldwin, Fort Meade, Dakota, May 2nd, 1887" (staining and vertical crease through print and mount), and 2 uncredited photographs of cavalry officers, one of which purportedly shows Cavalry Officer Hayes. -- Distant view of Fort Niobrara, Nebraska, as titled in the negative, with ink stamp of A.A.
