Canvas is lined. Moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust. Network of craquelures throughout, which appear stable. The length of the upper edge appears to have inpainting, extending downward from the edge approximately 2 inches, visible under normal viewing conditions. Additional areas of inpainting visible under close inspection include to the saint's hands, forehead, and torso; and an approximately 2 x 2 inch area of inpainting to the left of his cheek. Whitish residue stains along the lower right edge, as well as a localized area of white paint drips. One pinpoint paint loss in the lower left corner. Several possible repaired areas on the canvas verso. Under UV light: the aforementioned areas of inpainting fluoresce. Inpainting to the lower chin edge, both arrows, and blood droplets. The thick varnish prohibits viewing of any additional apparent inpainting. Additional images available upon request.
