Lot Note:

Paul Jenkins was an American abstract painter who developed a distinctive method of pouring, tilting, and guiding highly fluid pigment across paper or canvas, allowing color to spread organically while retaining compositional control. 

Created in 2008 during Jenkins’s final productive period, Phenomena Right Beckons belongs to Jenkin's “Phenomena” series, a designation he began using in late 1959. This series focused on the exploration of color, form, light, and the interplay of transparency and opacity. Although these flowing forms may initially appear accidental, Jenkins carefully directed the pigment through pouring, surface manipulation, and specialized tools, directing attention toward the work’s atmosphere, color, and visual momentum.
