The estate of Ralph E Purvis and Bonnie B Purvis, Dallas, Texas, in the collection of the Preston Hollow French Chateau (one of Dallas' 10 most Beautiful Homes), acquired in the 1970s; sold J. Garrett Auctioneers, Dallas, Texas, September 27, 2015, lot 31.
This work comes from Preston Hollow French Chateau, one of the ten most notable mansions in Dallas, Texas. Celebrated as one of the most beautiful French-style residences in the state, the château was widely published in interior design magazines and even featured on the cover of the 1990s board game Mystery Mansion. At the time, the property was owned by the wealthy businessmen Ralph E. and Bonnie B. Purvis. In 2004, the couple relocated from Dallas to a farm in Canada and additional residences in Europe. After their passing, a portion of the château’s contents was sold through the local auction house J. Garrett, from which the present owner acquired this work. According to the auction house, the relief was originally purchased around 1970.
