Marshall was appointed by John Adams to be Chief Justice of the United States in 1801. He also authored the five volume, Life of George Washington, 1804-1807.
Hugh Cannon appears in Philadelphia directories from 1840 to 1857 variously as a marble mason, sculptor and carver.
