Note:
The Spanish Minister to the United States, Don Josef de Jaudenes y Nebot (1764-1818) married Matilda Stoughton (1778-after 1822) in New York, in 1794. Matilda was the sixteen-year old daughter of Spanish Consul, John Stoughton of Boston. Gilbert Stuart painted the couple the year of their marriage and the portraits are now in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
