Depicted seated in padmasana, a kapala in his left hand, his right with raised vajra, his robes incised with foliate scrollwork; raised on a lotus throne with large petals and stylized stamens at the base, the underside sealed; traces of pigments to his cap.

Thence by descent

Gustav (Gus) Langford was an associate in the offices of the renowned Philadelphia architect Louis I. Kahn. Gus and his wife, Maris Langford, lived with their young son in Dhaka, Bangladesh, from 1965-1968, during the construction of Kahn's iconic Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban complex (National Parliament Building). In addition to Gus's participation in the design and execution of the project, Maris designed interiors for residences within the complex. Gus and Maris travelled extensively in Asia during this time, collecting pieces from India, China, and South Asia, including the present work.
