Lot Note:

La Leçon de Piano, a pleasantly calm composition that is full of a suspended inner life, is characteristic of André's work. It references another similar painting, titled Grand intérieur au piano: la musique and dated to 1938, which is recorded in the Archives Durand-Ruel.

Framed: 39 x 60 x 4 in.

The unlined canvas is in overall good condition. The varnish has slightly discolored. There is craquelure throughout, particularly in the more thickly painted areas. There are a few pinpoint dents at the top left and center. There is scattered staining on verso. Under UV light, there is evidence of the varnish and a few small areas of potential inpainting at top.
